Slicker brushes and grooming gloves both remove loose fur, but they feel very different in use. The better choice depends on coat type, shedding level and how comfortable your pet is with grooming.
What a slicker brush does best
A slicker brush uses fine bent pins to lift loose coat and work through thicker fur. It can be especially useful for medium, long or dense coats when used gently.
What a grooming glove does best
A grooming glove feels more like petting and is often easier for animals that dislike traditional brushes. It works well for loose surface fur and short to medium coats.
Which should you choose?
- Choose a slicker brush for thicker coats or more targeted brushing.
- Choose a grooming glove for sensitive pets or quick routine grooming.
- Some households use both for different parts of the grooming routine.

Use either tool gently
Brush in the direction of hair growth, avoid excessive pressure and stop if your pet shows discomfort. Mats close to the skin should not be pulled aggressively.
